This course is a recognised skill set for people working in various care and support roles in the community services sector who wish to develop the skills to confidently offer assistance to clients requiring medication.
This skill set has been endorsed by the industry as appropriate for people who hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in an area involving provision of direct client care or support.
This course is suitable for personal care assistants employed in residential aged care facilities or direct support staff working for home and community care (HACC) organisations who wish to add a competitive edge to their skill set.

Core Units
HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems.
HLTHPS006 Assist clients with medication.
Entry Requirements
This skill set is suitable for individuals who hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in an area involving provision of direct client care or support.
In addition, Far North Training & Consultancy has the following selection criteria for this course: The participant will be required before enrolling to complete a language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine what level of support the participant may need to assist them through their study program.
Delivery
Face-to-face in a small group training environment.
The structure of the program includes a study of healthy body systems and comprehensive practical simulations.
You will need support from your employer in undertaking this course as it requires the final practical assessment to be conducted in your workplace, with five different clients, according to care plans, and with five different types of medication and three different modes of administration. It is preferable this takes place during a scheduled work shift.

Pathways Information
These units provide credit towards a range of qualifications in the CHC Community Services Training Package or HLT Training Package at Certificate IV and Diploma level.
Duration
The course duration is dependent upon previous skills and experience gained in the industry together with applicable credit transfer if this should apply.
