Meet Beaudyl Blanco
When Beaudyl was in her final year of high school in Weipa, she was certain of two things: she loved everything to do with hair and make-up and she didn’t want to go to university. So, when she moved to Mossman with her family to be closer to her grandmother, Beau – as she is known to friends and family – paid attention when her nan mentioned that Far North Training & Consultancy ran beauty courses.
“I didn’t hesitate. I went in and spoke to Sue who works on the front desk and enrolled in the Certificate III in Beauty Services straight away,” said Beau.
“I was pretty confident before I enquired that I would sign up then and there, but after chatting with Sue, I was even more excited about starting. The ladies at Far North Training were so welcoming and helpful.”
For Beau, the combination of theory and hands-on experience during the course was just right.
“Our trainer had a great balance of the two. I thought we’d be doing a lot more bookwork before we’d start applying our learnt skills, but within a week we were in the salon.”
Far North Training & Consultancy runs its own boutique salon, Enhanced Beauty, where discounted treatments are offered, giving students a chance to practice their skills under the guidance of trainers.
“I love the fact that we dealt with clients and real-world situations during the course; it made the transition to work easier,” said Beau.
When asked if she’d considered online courses instead, Beau admitted she had but her dream of opening her own salon one day meant that she wanted to train properly. After completing the Certificate III, Beau enrolled in the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy, finishing both courses in under a year.
And just over a month after completing her qualifications, Beau landed a position at the award-winning Vie Spa, located in the Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort & Spa.
“Now I have started working, for me it’s really about the clients and seeing how good they feel after a treatment. It makes you feel like you’re doing the best that you can knowing how much they’ve enjoyed their time with you,” said Beau.
