This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as beauty therapists to provide a range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including lash and brow treatments, nail services, make-up, massage and waxing. They communicate with clients to recommend treatments and services and sell retail skin care and cosmetic products.
These individuals undertake work independently, with limited guidance from others, to perform routine and non-routine activities and solve non-routine problems. They apply and adapt technical skills and knowledge, and use judgement in the provision of beauty treatments and services. These individuals are responsible for their own outputs and provide limited guidance to others.
Work is typically conducted in beauty, waxing, brow, nail salons and spas.
Students successfully completing all the listed competencies will achieve Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy. Students who successfully achieve some of the listed competencies will receive a Statement of Attainment for those units that they have demonstrated competency.
Upon successful completion participants will be qualified to seek employment in a range of environments including but not limited to:
- Beauty Salons
- Freelance Beauty Therapist
- Cosmetic Consultancy – Make-up Artist
There are no pre-requisites for entry to this qualification, however FNTC has the following selection criteria for this course. The participant will be required before enrolling to complete a Language Literacy and Numeracy assessment to determine what level of support the participant may need to assist them through their study program.
This program is offered by face to face delivery mode. Program duration for a full-time student is an average of 12 months. Students will also need to commit to 5 hours per week of independent research. Students are required to participate in ‘in house’ salon treatments 2 days per week of which are ongoing throughout the course.
Cost: $5,500 – Payment plans can be negotiated prior to enrolment.

Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL)
If you are currently working in a Resort, Beauty Services, Pharmacy or similar facility then you may be entitled to Recognition of Prior Learning. RPL is a nationally recognised process which helps you gain credit towards a certificate based on the skills and experience you have gained from:
- Previous learning
- Work or industry experience (paid or unpaid)
- Partially completed studies
Your experience is matched to current industry qualifications so you may be able to gain credit towards or even recognition for a full qualification.
