Supported by the strong tourism sector, hospitality is one of the largest employers in Tropical North Queensland. Gain the competitive edge in securing work and enrol in our Certificate III in Hospitality as an apprentice or a full-time student.
Teaching you all the critical hands-on practical skills, this Certificate will enable you to work in a variety of roles and venues, including how to work effectively in a hospitality establishment. Skilled gained include exceptional customer service, working independently plus all the practical skills such as how to make coffee, cocktails, handle food safely, serve customers and provide table service.

This qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who use a range of developed hospitality service, sales or operational skills and sound knowledge of industry operations. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.


This program will provide a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialization in accommodation services, food and beverage and gaming.


Students successfully completing all the listed competencies will achieve Certificate III in Hospitality. Students who successfully achieve some of the listed competencies will receive a Statement of Attainment for those units that they have demonstrated competency.

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites for entry to this qualification, however FNTC has the following selection criteria for this course.  The participant will be required before enrolling to complete a Language Literacy and Numeracy assessment to determine what level of support the participant may need to assist them through their study program.

Learning Support

All learners have access to a qualified trainer/assessor. At orientation participants will be provided with information they need to transition successfully into their chosen course of study. Trainers will also advise students of support services available.

Program Duration

This program is offered by face to face delivery mode. Program duration for a full time student is an average of 12 months. Some students may complete the course in less time, however.  Students must participate and attend 36 service periods in a Hospitality establishment.

How to Apply

Students must complete an enrolment form and return to Far North Training & Consultancy with appropriate documentation. For further information refer to Student Handbook.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you are currently working in a business facility then you may be entitled to Recognition of Prior Learning. RPL is a nationally recognised process which helps you gain credit towards a certificate based on the skills and experience you have gained from:

  • Previous learning
  • Work or industry experience (paid or unpaid)
  • Volunteering
  • Partially completed studies

Your experience is matched to current industry qualifications so you may gain credit towards or even recognition for a full qualification.
